OpenAI adds API credits to its $100-$500 ChatGPT plans

OpenAI now gives ChatGPT subscribers on its $100, $200 and $500 monthly plans API credits, which can be applied to one of their API organizations. It copies a benefit Anthropic introduced earlier in October. Teams already paying for these plans can prototype on the API without a separate budget line.

What changes for operators — If someone on your team already holds a $100, $200 or $500 ChatGPT plan, check whether that subscription now carries API credits and which API organization they are applied to. Use them for internal prototypes, such as a lead-qualification script or a support-ticket triage test, before anyone approves a separate API budget. Treat them as a trial allowance and confirm the expiry terms on OpenAI's help page before building anything you depend on, because the source does not state them for OpenAI.

  1. OpenAI and Anthropic Slash Model API Prices in Same-Day Releases

If your support bot, sales assistant or internal automation runs on GPT or Claude APIs, this is a direct cost lever: GPT-6 Luna at $0.10/M input tokens is roughly one-twentieth the price of Claude Opus 5.5, and cached-token discounts on Opus 5.5 matter a lot if your agents run long multi-turn conversations where most tokens are repeated context. Before renewing any AI vendor contract or locking in a model choice for a new automation build, re-run the cost math — a workflow that looked expensive at GPT-5.6 or Opus 5.0 pricing may now be cheap enough to expand to more use cases, and a support queue currently routed to a premium model may run just as well on a cheaper one.
